PostSubject: Re: Going salty + tank log   Going salty + tank log - Page 3 Icon_minitimeSun Jun 28, 2009 4:09 am

well we have water in it lol and it is holding fast all electrics working heater is working

not with ro water but with tap and no salt just basicly testing the position and the placing of all the items

but i have been having seconds thoughts about the filter tho

i think i might get rid of it full stop and put in an over sized skimmer in it's place

went down to the fish shop today and had a good conversation about the tank

i told him about the 4ft cichlid tank and he said that it will be a marine in 6-12 minths lol

but it was an impresive setup they had also everything is so cheap compaired to the lfs

but did warn me about alge in a small tank as it can be problematic with out a sump

but also found out they do the auquatics center in newquay called blue reef

just trying to sort the flow in the tank and try to get more areation

right well have had a rethink about the filters

i might get rid of the filter and just add a over sized skimmer instead as i can get a v2 600 for £40

well here it is with water

tbh it is really no difference to the freshwater reguards to work but everything is living in the tank from the sand to the rocks and the little tubes that come off the rocks

and then you start to look at corals and then it starts to get facinating with all the different things they each do

the only down side is the ro water and salt can cost a fair bit

i keep reading people leaving their tanks for 4 weeks with out a water change and every thing is flurishing

the juwel tank isnt a bad place to start great little tanks and can be placed anywhere

i am really considering turning the 4ft cichlid tank into a marine or getting a 6ft tank

i have found a few things in the tank now and am looking all the time at it now lol

i have a snail, some sort of louse (looks like a wood louse but creamy
coloured) and i have a few tuby things on the rocks that are coming out
and going back in also have a tiny little star fish/sea star that is
moving all over the rock, moves quite quick i thought it was dead when
i first saw it but this morning it went from the top to the bottom lol

i mentioned doing this nearly 2 yrs ago and am only doing it now lol

sadly your star fish will most certainly die Crying or Very sad
it will starve(they don't do well in new set ups)
don't you know anyone with a marine tank?
or take it back to where you got the live rock.
is the the thing that looks like a wood lice creamy
sounds like a stomatella snail I have one of these a goodie by the way
part of the c.u.c
google it, horrid looking creature

I Was looking at your live rock as well
this looks like a Aiptasia
if it is you need rid of it very quickly....
use a turkey baster with scolding water in and zap it.
you seem to have alot of activity on your live rock..
I only got a stomatella snail and a crab the crab must have died
as I havan't seen him in weeks.

yes it is one of those but i am going to try and get some peppermint shrimp to gobble it up if not then it will be aiptasia-x to kill it

was told the boiled water only works if it is still boiling when it hits it
