As mentioned before, all the Amano shrimp vanished from my 165L tank so I've been on the lookout for some Fan Shrimp which are much bigger (grow to about 5" I believe) so are well able to hold their own against the Cichlids. When I got them, they were bright orange but they've now developed their proper colours of brown with a white stripe along the back. I can't wait to see them do the "fanning" thing though.

I have Amano shrimp in practically all the tanks, Diana.

It was the ones that were with the Rams that vanished so I reckon they ate them - I mean, ten of them vanished without trace... Shocked

So this pair seem to be the ideal alternative and they do this cool little "fanning" thing with their front legs to filter the water which I've yet to witness but looks like this.

Nice shrimp mary, i had 2 and they was fasinating to watch! I thought one was dead though when i first got them, but it had shed its shell, "fans" and everything, looked like it was deadm so beware of that lol

They both died though, dont know why! One day theyre brown, after shedding their shell theyre bright red, interesting odd balls to a tank!

Not so much the size as the personality of the fish. The Amano shrimp I added were juveniles - only about 2cm so they didn't stand a chance against the Cichlids, I guess. I have full grown Amanos in another tank and they're about 5-6cm so well able to look after themselves. Smile
