That's a fine sized tank, phishy. I've read that larger tanks are easier to maintain as the water chemistry is more stable in a larger body of water. Makes sense I suppose. According to the volume calculator, that's 478L...

Oh yes, great size tank phishy! If you measure from the water line it'll give you a true volume as there is a pretty wide rim on the Juwel tanks. Although Juwel are notorious for approximating their tank sizes a bit too vaguely! My 240L according to the calculator holds 280L but it doesn't, it's more like 250L but with displacement by rocks it's much less & the 30L (ish) in the filters makes it go up again. It's a pretty good thing to know when it comes to adding meds etc.

couldnt be bothered with the tape measure as i was comfy so looked it up online lol and i dont have floor boards downstairs its concrete and tiles and laminate in the living room, so i guess im lucky lol. Was meant to ask about ocean rock, is it ok for tropical. Does it bring down water hardness cos if it does it will be ideal

How big do they clown loaches get to then alison - I think they're a lovely fish, but I think they get to quite a size too dont they? It would be great to have a big tank full of just them!

clowns can get to about 16 inch with the right conditions have a look for marge on youtube she is one big loach
