| I was looking at a magnetic algae scraper in the lfs this afternoon. It looked like two spongey things, one goes on the inside of the tank and another on the outside and you moved the outside one up and down so the inside one cleans the glass. It looks like a real good idea, but does anyone use one - are they any good? I dont want to buy one if it's rubbish! |

| They're very good but I'd seriously recommend getting the floating type. If you accidentally knock the outside one off you don't have to worry about fishing it out or it knocking one of the fish unconscious! I wouldn't be without my algae magnet  | |

| I have a magnetic on but hate it! It's noisy so the fish get all jittery and doesn't work well! I use Doc Wellfish one, it is AMAZING! | |

| I started off with a magnetic algae cleaner but I found it a bit fiddly to use. Also, I was worried about trapping bits of gravel under it which could scratch the glass. So now I just use a rough algae sponge which works a treat. Although since I got my Otos, I hardly have to do any cleaning at all... | |

Is this a special type Mary, or do all of these float! | |

| No they don't all float. A lot of them sink and they recommend tying a bit of string on each bit so you can fish it out but it looks silly having a bit of string hanging from the tank. If they don't specify 'floating' they wont float | |

What's Doc Wellfish Matty - some sort of scraper, or something you put in the tank - I have never heard of it. |
