| i got a fright this morning when I was feeding the fish. One of the corys seemed to get a piece of the food stuck in its mouth. It looked like it had something stuck, and then it spat it out, then went and eat a bit of it again. Can fish choke on food? I dont know whether to break the food up into little bits? | |

| I haven't come across any incidences of fish choking apart from a crushed up bit of aquatic snail but I think it recovered. I've often seen the fish take in a mouthful of food though, spit it out and then eat it again so maybe they were just being greedy and had "eyes bigger than belly!". | |

| The only thing I have heard of is that goldfish can have problems with goldfish pellets and they should be soaked before being fed them. If it was just flakes you were feeding though I wouldnt have thought they would have had any problem. | |

| They need a fair bit of soaking Mary - I have some too. Apparently they can cause probs with either choking or swimbladder probs as the fish swallow a lot of air while they are trying to eat them. Dont know how true this all is but it's better safe than sorry I guess. | |

| I soak my cichlid pellets in a little jug & add about an eggcup full of boiling water from the kettle to help soften them. We have seen one of the fish with a pellet wedged in his mouth & everyone else chasing to try to get it. It took ages for him to swallow it...it was quite worrying | |
