tanks in this heat

well both my tanks are way too high temp
even late at night the marine being the worse.
Its against the outside wall which has the sun on it all day.
I had to take the heater out of it and swop it for the spare
as the one thats in was flashing all the time
as the temp was over what it was set at,it was getting on my nerves really
I now have a fan directed at both tanks, E's at 78 and his is 76 as a rule
I hate this weather
Im elergic to the sun I suffer with prickly heat bad
even if the sun isant out I get bad rashes.
had all the meds,nothing works, dr says just get on with it..lol
I don't go abroad as im always ill for half of the holiday.
the only thing that works is Calamine lotion, well dont I Look great
walking about with that on..
Im the one on the beach with all the towels all over me..lol
yet the rest of the family are ok?
I have to go out covered up most of the time with my coat on.
looking stupid this weather.
I Sweat like a pig my forehead is like a river with water running down.
I spend loads on B.O stuff..
cant sleep at night its too hot and stuffy.
I have to drag myself to shops.

how can people like this weather

ho dear chez sounds like this weather is bad for you sorry but i love it i just
sit in the garden all day long no sun oil or anything i just go brown - as for the tanks
mine are the same temp up and down all the time not good for fish.

I Wish.
Apart from that over the back from us are the neighbours from hell
screaming shouting swearing music really loud
and thats just the parents
all the estates kids seems to go to there house to play in there garden.

no peace on our back.I have been round and also reported them.
and told them I had,they think there is only them living round here.
but he thinks he's above the law,so takes no notice

actually i am not suffering in this heat (apart form hayfever lol) my tanks are bang on 26*c at all times

parts of my house are made of granite so makes for cool walls in the day but warm in the night

well - my main tank is a little higher than normal - not too bad at 26 instead of 24/25 - my gupster gaff (the 70liter) is about the same

BUT im having a mare of a time with my fry tank and have lost alot of baby BN's over the last 10days or so due to fluctating temp - it was 28 in there today and the heater is now set to 22 - it does work as I tested it - if this carries on - i may have to just consign all the fry to fishy heaven - its a shame cos I spotted an albino BN in the mix too

my big concern is on the 7th of july (i think) the power in our house will be off for an hour or so for electricy board to fuit new meter - we had the power off for 30mins today for a new mains socket and some of my fish werent too happy about it in the main tank

well I have noticed it takes a hour to go down or up a degree in our house


Rich tell him he has 1 hr..as you have t.fish..lol

when they came and put me a new meter not long ago it took him about 20 mins

Sorry to hear about the noisy neighbours, that must be tough to cope with.

Re: the tanks - I turned all the tank heaters down to 24C but they rarely come on since the tank is registering temps of around 28C. Closing blinds and/or the curtains during the day if you're not there might help if the room is overly sunny. I float bottles of iced water in the coldwater tank since that's registering 24C atm...

we all long for summer and it brings all these problems - ho well another day in Paradise

Just checked my tanks - the trop one is registering 28, and the coldwater 26, so I have done a water change with really cool water on the tops and cold water for the coldwater one.

I am going to look for empty plastic bottles to freeze so I can cool them off a bit.

just washed the dog out in the garden under the hose - suds everywhere!

the problem with wwater changes that are lower than the tank is the obvious cold shock to fish - however - in a trop tank - if you have corys *(but alot of others will as well) the sudden cold water indiced spawing - like rainfall or snow melts inthe wild

to make dounbly sire it works, you can use a spray bar (if you dont normally) to replicate rainfall on the surface failing that - a garden watering can rose works well

Thanks Rich, temp has gone down 1c and I now hav a couple of bottles of water freezing in the freezer and have the lid off the tank too. Hopefully that will do the trick

I put someof tose freezer blocks in (the blue things used for cool boxes - I used em to keep fishing bait cool inthe past) and they went from soild to melted in ....

Ive also made all the filters really disturb the surface now as well as air lines open to the max and all lids off (praying my ABF dont jump which they do all the time) - now I have the added worry of severe weather warning for my area ie storms - so a power cut is the last thing I need right now

ive come tot he attitude of ive done all I can and if i lose everything - so be it - no point worrying over stuff you cant control

That's what I'm using as well.

got to becareful with lids off my bala tried to jump out of tank tuesday so just put middle section back on ok now - thats a great idea to use the ice blocks going to look for ours now

I'm going to do another water change today - the temp seems to be stuck at 27 now, so a bit better but still too hot I think. I am putting bottles of frozen water in the tank, but the hardly last any time at all.

I have got a big fan blowing in the living room - mainly for the dog who is really struggling in this weather. I feel sorry for him, he's a big dog, with a really thick coat. Imagine having to wear a fur coat in this weather!!!

I have one of those fans humidifier you add water
and blows moist air I Have it directed at both tanks
also done a water change this morning on both tanks.
hopefully the weather here in sheff is going to drop tomorrow
and sat as I wont be here going away for weekend
so they will have to fend for themselfs
