fish food

Just been to farm foods (a cheaper version of iceland) and they had a bag of sea-food cocktail , when I checked what was in it i wouldnt eat it but I was thinking would it be ok for my fish, inside was mussels, shrimp, clam and cuttle fish. I already use mussel and shrimp but would the clam and cuttle fish be alright, its a good size bag for £4.99 .

I am not 100% sure but I would imagine that if fish get away with eating their dead tank mates then a bit of frozen clam andd cuttle fish would be ok alison.

it will be fone - be sure its completely defrosted tho before feeding and only feed a small amount once or twice a week.

I tend to either (when feeding prawns) put it in about 10am (with a much reduced flake etc feed) and take out any uneaten by about 2pm

or drop them in at lights out (12am or so) and remove uneaten when I get up

\Be sure to get any uneaten food out as it will rot and such foods can cause ammonia spikes.

One not of caution, squid, octopus and cuttle fish are tough meats and may need to be lightly boiled to enable little fish to have a nibble - if your feeding larger fish (ie oscars) this wont be such an issue as they tend to bite n swallow anyway

if your unsure, leave out the cuttlefish (sell it as bait to an angler)

I think the fish will love you for that, but as had been mentioned, make sure you defrost any pieces first. I give my tanks defrosted prawns once a week and it's quite amusing to watch the fish playing tug of war...

yeah prawns are great my son gives his fish them and they go crazy for them.

That sounds like a bit of a bargain ali. I have never experimented that much with food for the fish - they tend to get fllakes and pellets and thats it - apart from a bit of veg now and again, but maybe I need to have a bit of a rethink.

mine love veggies cucumber,lettice,peas, all sorts maybe its just me but when they have some veg they seem to colour up lovely.

nearly forgot F.F if you do give them some veg just a little once a week.

I give my fish veg twice a week - on Wednesday & Sunday. It's usually all gone within 24 hours and then the fish produce green faeces for 24-48 hours afterwards.

i only give mine once a week, mite try twice a week.

mine like raw garlic... only once a month tho, makes the house pong for a day or so!

Yeah, I use garlic too - the house smells like a Greek restaurant for a while afterwards

In terms of garlic - after an accident involving one clumsy me and a springer soiniel and a pot of garlic powder and eeep pile carpet and a stench lasting months - i now use garlic flake - some fish love it some dont touch it

Veggies - um 5 or 6 days a week for mine as well as the usual algae wafers etc - most plecs need and like a reasonable amount of meat as well so mine get a prawn or two once a week, fresh salmonm flake when im having it as well as the frozen bloodworms etc the tank gets weekly

The greens list is cucumber once per week (only a thin slice then as well) half a courgette 6 nights a week, peas, mango, pineapple, sweetspud, lettice, watercress, grapes once or twice a week (as n when really)

I know this sounds a lot - but two adault BN's eat alot (especially after breeding) as well as a snowball plec, a number of ottos and other green eaters - and im a bit harsh on the algea inthe tank and the fish need to eat something

Thats a well fed tank you have there Rich - no wonder they are breeding and having loads of babies
