Hiya again - sorry to be back with more questions but Ive got my tank now! Got it from a friend of a friend sort of thing and it's an elite aquarium that holds about 200 litres and came complete with some egyptian temples, fake plants and an old filter thant hangs inside.

Ive been doing a lot of reading and think I have an idea what I need to do now but can I check with you?

Wash all the gravel and put in tank
Put in ornaments and plants
Fill with water and get filter going (and heater!)
Run filter and heater to check its all working ok.
Add Ammonia to get level to 5
Keep doing that and wait!!

Have I missed anything out?

Also, the tank is about 2 yrs old, the lights are working ok but should I get new bulbs in it or will they be ok?

Hi motsy...

Congrats on getting the tank. Sounds like you have everything covered there.
When you add the ammonia, do it in very small doses ie. 1ML at a time & test (Do not sniff the ammonia!!!).
If you post your results each day or 2 when you test, we can keep an eye on it with you.
Don't forget to add a pic in the photography section of it when it's set up Smile
Good luck & nice one for doing the fishless cycle

Oh...the lights should be fine unless you want to have live plants, in which case i'd invest in new bulbs but maybe near the end of your cycle. Save the pennies Wink

Cant add much to what Munchy has said motsy except - Good Luck!

Dont worry about doing the cycle, it just takes a bit of patience and it does give you the chance to get used to your tank and plan what fish you are going to get!

Well Motsy, GOOD LUCK WITH THE CYCLE.

Its a royal pain in the ass! My main tank took ages to cycle yet my little 320 was done in around 11 days maybe a few more!
