I came back from a few days away and found one of my plattys dead. I am not sure why though and am a bit worried. I have had a bit of problems lately because the filter wasnt working properly and I got some ammonia and nitrite in the tank. Could that be why the fish has died?

I dont know if I still have babies in the tank but I havent seen any yet - perhaps they havent survived either No

was it the male or female that died khelly? sometimes they find childbirth a bit too much!
The fry might have been lunch. if all the other fish are ok, and the water has settled down then it could just be OOTT (one of those things!)

Hiya Mary, my water stats are fine now, no ammonia or nitrite and the nitrate is 15. I am still checking it every day though just in case it happens again.

Well at least you know it's not a water quality issue then. Sad to say but sometimes fish just die for no apparent reason. I've had several unexplained deaths so I guess it's just a survival of the fittest scenario. Wink
