Squeezed filter media onto new filter, set up tank, dechlorinated water (obviously) and put betta in there.

No ammonia yesterday, between 0 and 0.25 today, done 50% water change, apart from test everyday and do 50% water change daily if needed is there anything else i can do? Obviously, old filter media will help it so hopefully it wont get any higher!

Just the water changes, phishy. I sometimes get mini-cycles when I add new fish to the Q tank but it usually only lasts a few days. Smile

From what I have read bettas dont mind being solitary, and its better than run the risk of getting ammonia in the mix.

From what I've read (cos I think they are lovely and my LFS has some) the Cochu's need a lot of swimming space anyway. You might get away with some dwarf cories?

Funny you should say that driver, because...

Hes built a bubble nest?? Bearing in mind hes on his own in the tank, BUT i have a female fighter in the tank thats 2 metres away, do you think he can see her??

Why else do they build bubble nests, does anyone know?

If so, do you think i should put her in there with him for now?

one slight problem...where do the fry go once theyre grown lol, knowing my luck i'll have 30 male fighters lol. But someone on another site suggested jam jars? Obviously not longer than a day or two, just until their sold, what you think? Ive seen what they sometimes keep them in in pet shops (the betta houses) and theyre not any bigger than that.

Wouldn't you just take them down to the lfs and flog them then anyway, so the problem wont arise? Or do they start to show a bit of aggro at a really early age?

i think as soon as you can determine which sex is which (obviously once their fins have grown) then they start showing aggression dunno could put them all in my 400l tank... shark
