| Help!!! I'm in the middle of a power cut (thank God laptops have batteries!!!), and all the heating and filter in my tank has stopped working. They've been off for about 30 minutes so far. Temperature is still ok but what about the filter?? What can I do to keep the fish ok?? I'm going to do a bit of a water change just to make sure that's ok and will check later for your advice - dont want the battery to go. Any advice really welcome. |

| Well if you've done a water change then you know there wont be any ammonia etc in there to harm th fish, so that's one thing out of the way. If the temperature starts to drop, wrap the tank up in blankets or a duvet to maintain the temperature. Keep an eye on the water stats, but I would imagine that it would have to be a failrly long power outage to make a difference to the stats. Only thing that might happen is that you may have a mini cycle when everything ocomes back on - you will havve to monitor the water quality carefully for a couple of days. Hope you get everything back on soon. | |

| Do your neighbours have power? Or is it a whole area thing? If they did, can you ask to run an extension for a bit? Like Diana said, wrapping the tank in blankets or a duvet is a good idea I hope it's soon sorted | |

| Well, my tanks were once off for five hours during a power cut but luckily everything was fine. I kept adding small amounts of hot water to the tank (making sure to avoid any fish!) whenever the temp. dropped a degree. I also poured a cup of tank water over the filter sponges every hour or so to make sure they stayed wet. | |

| just to let you knw the fish are all ok I think. I got finished early - some idiot drove into my bus so I managed to get home quick. The filter was working when I got home and the light on the heater was on. Tank temp 25. I've tested the water and it is ok. I dont know how long it was all off for , but i guess I'll just have to keep an eye on the water is that right? |

| It happens quite a bit, youd think a bus was big enough to see! Just a pain coz you can bet that some of the passengers will claim wiplash even though they were all ok, and the Admin give you loads of grief over it! |
