hi guys was just watching my red tail black shark and i got to thinking is it possible to have a group of them in a tank on there own, i was thinking a group of say 7 - well guys what do you think.

Unfortunately not, dekker. It's recommended to only keep one RTBS in a four foot tank at least as they get VERY territorial as they age and would probably kill any rivals...

simple answer in 99% of home aquaria (ie under 8ft) is NO WAY
RTBS can get so colshy that they also have a pop at other bottom dwellers let alone their own kind - ever wondered why they are so cheap in the LFS - now you know - the LFS want to move them on ASAP and very few will rehome one for you either.
This also applies to the varients as well
I would say something to consider that is similar in shape and imho a better fish in terms of being out n about in day time are the various species of garra
