Elvis is having a friend.!!!!!!

Elvis wants to tell you he has been finally allowed to have a friend
his new friend is a 6inch Plec
he was advertized free as they have a breeding pr of discus
and he is stopping them....
and the owner said she is scared in case when they do breed the Plec will eat the eggs.
i will be collecting later tonight,they live 2 mins away from me so thats great
ok any advice here would be greatly appreciated
im am just going out now to l.f.f to buy some sort of armoured cage for him (cave)
for when E is having a Asbo day.............

chez, are you putting him in q for a bit to make sure he doesnty have any illness etc??

Check with the current owners of it if they have had to treat it for anything recently, and also make sure you know what sort of plec it is - some can gget a fair size.

Thats a good bargain chez, Id get a couple of caves if I were you just to make sure it has a couple of places to hide if it needs to.

Im going to set the fluval 90 up thats in the kitchen
for now till i get my new big fluval in a couple of weeks.
so i can leave him in there on his own for now,
and check him,

when i set the new tank up i can put him in first.!!!

I am going to take some buckets of E's water to fill it up
and some of his media out of his filter and put in the new filter.
plus the fluval 90 already has very very fine gravel in there.
i managed to buy a cave £14
will I feed him on the alge wafers i got E ??
I Think I will put A piece of bogwood in as well
out of E's tank........... the piece he aeroplanes round.

rather than the standard 'brown'

You wiull need to give him plec wafers - not sure what the cichlid wafers are made of tbh, but the plec ones would be better I guess - made specifically for the breed etc, but supplement them as well because he will need lots as there wont be algae in the tank.

Give him veggies, fruit etc weighted down (have you got any weights?), and the bogwood is essential for his digestion.

well if he is a leopard plec he could grow to about 18-20", and a common plec can grow between 16-18"!!! How big is that alcove of yours again?? lol

OMG chez, an 18" long fish!!! That sounds huge - poor old Elvis - if he thought a piece of bogwood or a pink net was scarey, wait till he hears of his new tank mate

ok roma 90 set up and running and temp nearly there
i used E's water well 4 buckets and other from tap.
bogwood in and the new cave.
i will take out the old filter from the 3ft juwel
before i fetch fish.
i put in the big tank to seed it for E. its stll in there.
as his should be ok now.
now we wait................................................

cant wait to see your new housemate chez, hope he settles ok.

Elvis will probably hide from him...

well i have just squeezed E's filter media in the roma 90 blimey
it is now disgusting and non see through
we will be collecting new addition in about half a hour.
in a bucket.
what i will do when he's home is take a jug of water out then add a jug of the water he is going in every 10 mins or so for about a hour..

That should be ok chez.

Just remember to keep the lights off when you put hiom in the tank and dont feed him today - it will help him settle. You have a cave for him and the bogwood so he wil have places to hide.

ok i have done the above over the passed hour
he is now in the tank clinging to the filter
no lights on. tank still cloudy but its clearing bottom up.
i didn't use the pink net
i managed to get the bucket in the tank so he went it that way
Backwards..lol oops.
i hope he finds the cave i bought him...
it cost enough.lol

You are best not to use a net with plecs anywat chez - they can damage their barbels on them apparently.

I was just thinking i am going to put a osca in with my plec,and you have just put a plec in with your osca,i think i will wait to see what happens .lol

I was going to have shellies in, then couldn't decide what i wanted in it.lol
he will go in with E when i set up the new tank im getting the fluval roma 240
but will put plec in first......... then E....

Whenever Ive handled plecs pr anything with weapons (spines etc) I use my bare hands - most of the time - i get away with it without blood shed - plecs usually will settle on your hand anyway (trick is to wake em up abruptly midday and ut your hand outside the cave they are sleeping in)

Sometimes a plec will be a bit posessive about his/her cave and carry on sucking onto the side even when out of the water which can be a pain or useful

Things with spines - tbh - the best way to get em is with a decent sized glass or jar and herd them into that - but certainly not a net, - i just dont ususally have one to hand so end up using my umm hand

I have nearly lifted one of my BN's out with the bogwood when doig a major clean of the tank
