yeah its very tempting to rush out and get your fish thinking everything is ok
but to many in a short space of time may cause a spike and things start to go wrong then you feel down hearted.

well hope everything goes ok for you terror look forward to photos when you can.

good luck................dekker

TT - many LFS peeps are only in it for the money - like all specialist stores - they know how to make you feel like a noob and dumb and to make themselves seem perpetually correct.

Any and all LFS peeps know what a fishless cycle is - thyd prefer you bought fish - fish believe it or not are what most shops call 'loss leaders' these items (like bread and milk in shops) cost them more to stock tthan you pay - but they hope youll buy other stuff at the same time whic does make em money.

Also - fish in tanks in a shop mean that the owner cant get more stock whilst his tanls are full of (for example) feeder fish such as guppy's (not my term - how they veiw most fish).

It is a very rare LFS that will say to you 'fishless cyc;les are excellent and the best system' - im luvky in that of the 7 or so LFS in my area - 5 of them support and encourage the fishless cycle.

Stick by your guns - hundred of ppl on the net who fishless cycled their tanks (and in many cases done so to dozens of tanks each) CANNOT be wrong - the science and the statistics are easily found and easily replicated time and again.

I would wait until the week end before adding more fish

well done - the patience is rewarded Wink

Well, just about there now. A couple more Harlequins and some Celebes rainbowfish added yesterday. All look well - levels fine too. I'll make one more addition in due course (when I find them), a couple of Killifish (Gardener?). It's time to move on from this thread.

As well as repeating my thanks I'd just like to say a word in defence of the LFS. They have not tried to make me buy, but urged caution. Once I expalined the fishless cycle (like I'm an expert). they were genuinely interested and appreciated the logic of stocking at once. I suppose, in their position, recommending that approach 'over the counter' i.e not researched by the fishkeeper him/herself, could be risky and could set themsleves up if things go wrong. I needed the support you guys gave me and, as I've saind may times, thank you all most sincerely for it. See you in the forums (including the picture one Very Happy.

Glad to hear that the cycle went well and that you now have some fish. You could still add guppies if you want, just make sure they're single sex. Time to start planning the second, bigger tank now. Very Happy
