I was thinking of getting a couple of snails and shrimp for the tank but dont know which ones would be best. Anyone got any suggestions? I would want snails that wouldnt reproduce if possible.

Well I guess it decides on what size you want them to be? I have cherry shrimp, which are nicely coloured but quite small and you need a few of them to be noticed as they hide a lot.

They.re nice though and when you do see them they are good to watch! Very Happy

About 5cm - one of mine is at least that now and looks mighty impressive foraging around the tank. Smile

I'm getting some of those for my 165L tank since all the amano shrimp have vanished from there - I think the Rams are the culprits. Evil or Very Mad

I am. I'm just waiting for the recently sterilized filter sponge to reprime in the main tank. Plus the LFS only took a delivery last weekend so I figured I'd wait until this weekend to go choose one. Smile

Then time for the big experiment Mary? You know you could always get two, put one in the Orb, and one in a different tank and see how they both do! Very Happy

I have heard of a few techniques alison.

*Get a saucer and put it in your tank and put a piece of lettuce on it. put another saucer on top of it, but keep a small gap by putting a small pebble or piece of gravel at the edge. The snails crawl in, the plecs cant, and in the morning you just remove them.

*Check just above the waterline of the tank every morning, they usually gather there overnight, and then squash them. Feed the bits to the fish.

i believe that either method is as successful, as the other but they both take a while to clear the tank.

I have snails - common or garden ones - that came with an ornament as a free gift! Evil or Very Mad

I just use the squashing method to keep the numbers down, but I dont know if I will ever get rid of them totally.
