| I dont know if anyone will remember, but a while ago I had a neon that I was wrried about. It had a swollen abdomen that was shiny and almost square. I put some veggies in the tank in case it was constipated and it did seem to help it a bit, and then to be honest I forgot about it. Well today I found it floating at the top of the tank, dead. There were no signs of damage on the fish apart from the fact that its abdomen was wide open, as if it had burst . Any idea what could have caused this, and do I need to treat the tank for anything? | |

| Maybe it was a cyst Diana... when we had that spell & lost 3 fish in the cichlid tank we had an aceii with similar problems, we isolated it & within a few hours the lump popped and left a huge hole in the side of his body. Obviously he died instantly & we have no idea what caused it. We showed the pic to the breeder who suggested a cyst. There was a thread on here somewhere called 'any ideas'. 'Exploding fish' wasn't the nicest thing to read having just eaten my dinner | |

| Have you seen the film "Alien", Diana when the creature burst out of John Hurt's stomach?... All jokes aside, poor little fish - what a horrible way to go. I had something similar with my first Betta if you remember. He developed a cyst on his throat which eventually ruptured and killed him. I had quarantined him by that stage so at least no nasties were released into the tank...not to scare you or anything. | |
