| just to let you know that my itchy fish dont seem to be itchy any more! Since the sick platty died, I have been doing small daily water changes even though the readings were good. it made me feel better even if it did nothing for the fish  Anyway, the itchiness seems to have stopped and at the minute all the fish seem well, colours good and they are all active and eating Thanks for all the help everyone. good new smilies by the way |

| It's such a shame as it can put people off but 'our' guppy's made of stronger stuff than that | |

| Ah, so you've got some BN's in your 'posh' tank too, dont the cichlids need a higher ph or something or am I getting mixed up? (surely not  ) |

| Lol, the pH inthe cichlid tank is 7.8 & the bristlies came from a cichlid breeder. The mbuna tank in theory should be 8+ if you pick them out of lake malawi. I personally don't agree with the trade of wild caught fish that are taken from an african lake & shipped for days to end up in my tank so anyway... most tank bred fish are bred & kept in lower pH. It's better to have it stable and a bit lower than aiming for 8.4 & getting fluctuations that can be dangerous. My community tank pH is 6.8 so the bristlies wouldn't do too well in that water after being in the mbuna tank. They would probably curl up & die from pH shock  | |
