I know it depends on how much room I have and that, but is there a minimum size tank I would need to look at to have few tropical fish - say maybe 15 or so?

i would say decide how much space you have available and go from their

i made a mistake when i bought my first tank which was a rekford 70 as their was cirtain types of fish i wanted that i couldnt have and if i had know that at the start would have paid the extra £30-50 and got the 3ft tank

also you have the option of using ebay to ur advantage and get a second hand one that has been well kept for a fraction of what it would have cost you new

Well the Biorbs are fine for a few fish or as a bachelor pad for a Betta which is what I have. It also depends on the fish you want. You could fit a shoal of 15 neons in a 60L no bother. For larger fish such as Gouramis, you'd want at least 120L whereas specimen fish such as a Redtail Black Shark requires a four foot tank. Smile

The best advice is to get the biggest tank that you can afford and comfortably fit in your home. Also, be aware of the time required for maintenance - weekly water changes, monthly filter rinses etc. I can almost guarantee you that, if you start off with less than 100L, in a couple of months, you will want a bigger tank. Very Happy

Well I know that I would love another tank, and one much bigger. I also have delusions of being knowledgeable enough to have a marine set up!

You can all laugh now!! lol!

Ah yes, I too had that ambition, charley until I read into it a little bit more. If you thought freshwater was hard, just try researching what's involved in setting up (and maintaining) a marine tank..."Aargh!!" doesn't even begin to cover it. Very Happy
