I've added 2 male guppies to the tank so I dont think that will be too much of an extra load for the filter (I hope). I was wondering though, how often should I be cleaning the filter and how do I do it?

I have a 60litre Tetra AquaArt Tank. Also I now have 4 neons and 2 guppies in the tank, is that my maximum or can I get a couple of more fish, sorry for all the questions.

Does this have an in lid filter noobs? If it does then wash the filter material in some dirty tank water about once a month. I am bot sure if Mary has on of these tanks so hopefully she will be on later and tell you how she does hers Very Happy

You could probably fit a few more small fish in there, noobs. A pair of Honey Gouramis would be nice "feature fish". Wink

Re:cleaning the filter, I just lift out the internal cartridge and rinse it in a bucket of aquarium water once a month. I've also added extra filter wool to the white sponge by just lying it on top and poking the top of the wool under the clip. That accumulates most of the solid fish waste and is easy to rinse. Smile

No, dont clean th filter at all just yet. you dont need to clean it till you have had your fish in the tank for a few weeks.

Once you finished the cycle and have stocked your tank, I'd wait at least a month before giving the filter sponges their first clean. Smile
