Does anyone know if it is ok to use a large metal container as an outdoor pond? It's sort of oval shaped, 6footish lonf and about 2ft high. Could it be painted (on the outside) and used as an outside pond but above the ground?

Also do you have to have filters and stuff for them?

You need filters for ponds. Goldfish and Koi can accumulate large amounts of waste (assumming thats what your putting in their. It is neccesary to have the circulation a filter provides also.

I think it is generally recommended to have a filter for a goldfish pond as it keeps the water clean which keeps the fish healthier. It would probably be possible to drill a hole in order to insert the filter hoses so it might be ok. Your best bet might be to check with a garden centre as they would have more experience or might know of someone who has experience with setting up goldfish ponds. Smile

I am not sure if metal is safe to use as a pond container though.

There would be the concern of metal impurities leaching and affecting the fish so I'd double check that with an expert, carole. Smile
