Mpanga

Well, let me tell you. We bought 6 Mpanga & lost 2 when we had the bout of illness. With the 4 we have left, one colours up a lot so we were pretty sure he was male.
Anyways... one of the others we noticed was holding so today we caught her & moved her into the kitchen tank to spit her fry. She has spat 4 & is holding onto whatever she has left at the moment, she will porobably spit them while my big head isn't there scaring her, lol.

We noticed the remaining 2 mpanga are also holding fry so we have 3f/1m

In the fry tank we now have 14 interruptus, 6 labs & 4 mpanga (up to now)

Yay! Your cichlids are obviously doing very well! How big is the fry tank??

You're soon going to need a big tank just for the fry MC. Great news!

Just curious, MC but how do you know when the female is ready to spit out the eggs?

Well, they can hold, on average for 21-28 days but can be longer. If the female is inexperienced they can spit/swallow early.
This mpanga was 'munching' a lot, you could see her moving them around her mouth. The stress of netting can cause them to spit.. she spat 2 in the bucket before we got her into the tank.

Mother & babies are doing well & feeding We have 30 various fry now & the tank is 70L Matty
