I'm glad your whitespot is gone alison. What does a uv filter do - is it just like an ordinary filter with extras, and is it better to have one of those than an ordinary internal filter?

Sorry for all the noobie questions Very Happy

alison probably knows more than me but i think the uv filter sort of sterilisers the water somehow and gets rid of algae and i'm not sure if it also kills germs too.

i saw it on ebay it gets rid of algae and its supposed to kill harmful germs and according to the box there's a reduction of all disease-causing agents in the water i paid £29.99 if it does the job i'll be happy the water does look a lot clearer its made by fish r fun i got it in 3 days and the replacement lamps are about 14.99 i've still got an external and internal filter running with a 12 inch common plec and i just got a polka dot plec i need the filtration

Sounds good, alison. I've never looked into getting a UV sterilizer but I've heard good things about them. Smile
