Welcome to TFF - Dont worry, you dont have to be insane to get on here - but it helps
Welcome to TFF
Ok - Glass catfish - as they prefer to be kept in large groups - I dont
think your tank is going to be big enough - that aside - they need a
very stable environment and are very very prone to white spot - I
waited 2 years before getting mine - they are not big fish and not
overly active - but I think they prefer/need larger tanks simply
because such tanks are more 'stable' in terms of water quality.
If you want transparent fish - x-ray tetra will suit you
Guppy (Gupsters in my book
) are great little characters - but the
gouramis may nip them to bits - as would tetras. They are
not very hardy these days - they were once beginners fish but are so
inbred and thus weak now that they are NOT beginners fish. They also
breed like rabbits on steroids and speed
so unless you want
literally hundreds of fish you or no one wants - keep only males or
females - males look nicer but are smaller - and they never reach their
full glory until females are around (like any male
). You could get a few and see how it goes.
Bettas - males anyway ime are better on their opwn in a small tank or
with a harem of female bettas. You could also have females only in a
group - but as youve said - theyll probably have a go at guppys. These
too are quite delicate fish.
I would suggest bronze coydora catfish - they are great little fish - do a good job of eating leftovers and not too demanding

I would suggest bronze corydora catfish (or any corys you like the look of) - they are great little fish - do a good job of eating leftovers and not too demanding. There are hundreds of options - but I think most will agree when I say that alot of the smaller cichlids make good additions - great little characters - Rams (bolivian, blue, german etc) or dwarf cichlids, kribensis - lots of choices.
The vest thing to do is to read alot of books and or websites and get as much info as you can - then draw up a 'wish list' and base it on what you can keep in your tank - or ask us
Hope this helps
PS - I hope its zero ammonia and zero nitrite you have with a smattering of nitrate - therwise your fish are in trouble
