| This may be the wrong spot for this question - but if so, someone will move it My mom really like the corals etc in the fish shops so I am wondering if anyone can suggest an 'off the shelf' marine set up so she can keepp a few corals etc and perhaps a couple of clown fish - a very basic small marine rig thats easy to use etc (as it will be muggins here doing the work) Any suggestions for off the shelf sets (I had considered a converted biube but read some bad stuff about them) Alist of gear etc would be helpful if no full sets can be suggested Cheers in advance | |

| i know this is an old post
their is increased intrest with small marines but i have a warning to offer for those that are considering the small nano's
in these tanks only limited corals can be added due to the lighting that is needed for these and will have the temp in the tank nearing 30* if not more
and their is the other problem
you will most likly find that you will always have a hand in the tank due to the volume of water being reduced and you will need to check salinty daily
other than that they can be made to look really good and can be really rewarding
but to the question asked
their are many
redsea have had some good reveiws
Deltec Nano
JBJ Nano Cube
or you can go with just a standard tank
which you will need
powerheads skimmer heater blue tube and white 10000k + tube filter is a choice as their are other methods live rock live sand or similar as other's have silicates thermometer
you will be looking for 10x the volume as a flow in the tank

| for your mum id go for a small River Reef 48L cheap and has great Compact T5 lighting best you can get in a nano without spending 400 squid on a HQI D+D with what come swith it you may need a skimmer depending on water changes and you can add a korallia nano for extra flow. Add a phosphate remover and carbon. Other than that water rock and coral. | |

| hi k i would love to have a go at marines - but i would be gutted to lose my pearl gouramis and as we dont have room for any more tanks will have to wait till they have gone to the aquarium in the sky - then i will be able to look at the possiblty and will be pestering you and chez and g.d on what to get and do. so your save for a while. dekker | |

| you could awlay's go for a tiny invert reef with one of the small tanks like the fluval edge
tbh i am finding it intresting with just the rocks in lol
it's sad i spent more time watching rocks than i did watching the cichlids
i think if you get into it then it really takes over tbh but others that buy an all in one tank or a second hand reef dosn't give you the same feeling as i have a freind who did that and didnt like it but did when he started from scratch
