this time i have fry!!!!!!

finaly my sevs have spawned!!!!!! hundreds of fry and a pair of VERY agresive parents.



it was amazing watching them get ready.
firstly they laid the eggs in the pot you see in the pic.
then they dug a MASSIVE pit to the bottom of the tank!!!!.
eggs hatched and was a brown cloud for about 3 days.
THEN..... HUNDREDS of fry swimming around and the parents atacking all other tank mates.
so a divider was purchased to stop unwanted injurys.
one of the most strage hings i have noticed is that the parents have given the fry a BED time???????
they will literaly move them to the back of the pot and the fry will stay there until morning.

alsoanother question???

i have a aquedens rivulatus (green terror) female.
she has laid eggs????? but she has no male counter part????
i do have a aquedens pulcher (blue acara) male (only still very young half the size of the rivulatus)
??????can these two inter breed?????????????
if so.. i dont think there his cause he wont have any thing to do with her??????

what great photo's they are. I love the first one which shows the fry so well - and the vigilant parents too. Well done and good luck with them all. Have you any idea what you are going to do with the fry?

As for the aequidens rivulatus, I think that the females will lay eggs but obviously without a male they will not come to anything. By the way do you know that they can get some sort of digestive trouble if they dont have a really varied diet - meat, veggies, flakes and frozen food.

WOW you must be so pleased congrats on the new arrival there fantastic i love the idea that the fry have there own bedtime wish my kids went to be that easy once again congrats on the new arrival and good luck with bringing them up

congrats on the spawn severums they are really fast growing fry.
by any chance do the parents brood them in there mouth ?

thanks! btw no they dont mouth brood they are definate egg layers 1000's of em!

because they were in the comunity tank the fry didnt last long! but with the last batch i artificialy hatched and raised the fry in another tank! it took 3 months for them to grow to 1-2cms

yea as i thought they are green severums. true hero severum ie rotkiel / red shoulders are mouthbrooders but greens / blues / golds are egg layers but still a stunning fish once these grow on let me know i will have 50 or so from you
