Empty tank Empty
PostSubject: Empty tank   Empty tank Icon_minitimeMon Jun 16, 2008 1:42 am

Well, having lost another 2 fish in the past week or so, my stock levels in my tank are now getting seriously depleted. Today I lost another neon tetra, last week it was a mollie.

Thing is, I want to stock up the tank, but keep saying that I will wait a month after each death to make sure that there is nothing wrong in the tank, and then I lose another one and so never re-stock. At this rate I am going to end upo with no fish.

I do weekly water changes (always 0-0), temp stays fine, not over/under fed, so i am wondering if it would be ok to now go out and risk getting some more fish?

I'd go for it. If you have shoaling fish with depleted numbers then it could be stress that is doing them in.

Thanks indi - I was worried about that, the poor single neon must wonder what the hell is going on. Might be a trip to the lfs later in thr week yay

I guess I'll have to add them a few at a time and giove the bacteria time to build up in the filter again

Sounds a good idea. Have you thought about what you'd like in there?

Not sure to be honest.

Ive got some single fish in there that shouldnt be single. A neon tetra and a male cherry barb so I guess I need to get some pals for them. Ive also got a single male platty but I reckon he'll be ok - I dont think they need company as much do they?

I have read about dwarf corys that look quite nice, but other than that not sure!

A single platy should be fine. Although I'd be tempted to see if the LFS would take the single fish which would then give you scope for something different - unless those are your favourite fish of course!

Dont have any favourites to be truthful - except the BN's, and I wouldnt mind getting rid of the platty as he's a bolshy little sod but the others I would feel guilty about taking back. The cherry barb - he's in lovely colour at the mo, and I wouldnt want to stress him out by taking him back to the lfs, and the neon tetra deserves a bit of company. Very Happy

I know that limits the number and scope of what fish I get, but I should still be able to get a few of something.

What about a pair of something slightly larger? A 'Feature Fish'

I'd like to do that. If I got a couple of female cherry barbs and a few neon tetras to sort out these lonely fish, what would you suggest to go with them?

what are the dimensions of your tank?

Maybe gouramis? Pearl ones like Mary has would look lovely.

The tank is about 2.5ftlong x 1.5fthigh x 1.5ftdeep.

I'm looking forward to doing some fishy shopping soon - it will be nice to have a few new fish in there.
