I saw a mention of this in aniother bit and wondered about it. What are the benefits of it, why would fish need it? I read that it is filtered to remove impurities - is it the same principle as a Britta Filter or is that just being daft?

I think it's the same basic principle, but on a larger scale. From what I know (limited) some fish are particularly sensitive to small amounts of impurities and so benefit from having RO water, but hopefully someone will elaborate on this a bit for yiu.

RO water units basically get rid of any impurities in your water. It will also cause th PH to drop and your water will become soft.

However I myself now own a RO unit and on the good side you get nice "fresh" "cleaned" water but you also have a lot of "waste" water which I use for the garden etc.

Same sort of principles as the Britta filter. You have to change the RO units filters every so often. In my opinion waste of time unless you want super soft water for Discus etc.

I only bought mine coz it was SUPER cheap off a work mate!

As said above RO unit remove impurities. The water is forced through a membrane stopping any nasties through Very Happy RO water is only really necessary in marine set ups, discus and if you have particularly hard water and want a soft tank Smile Might PM you GD about your RO unit Wink
