Hiya again. Right so I have an ammonia of about 4, the nitrite has gone up slowly from 0.5 to 2.0 today, but there's no change in the level of ammonia. Shouldn't this start to go down now that the Nitrite is going up?

Should I take out some of the prawns and fish food now or wait a bit longer? Will ot do any harm if I dont take the food out at the right time?

Thanks everyone

I think sometimes the bacteria just needs a little time to get its act together hillsbent. If your ammonia has been steady and the nitrite is going up then sometime soon you will see the ammonia go down.

Wait for someone else to confirm this but I would leave things as they are because it all looks ok

You sound right on track, hillsbent so I'd leave well enough alone. Smile

Well the amonia has gone down today - its about 3'ish. There's no change in the nitrite though so do you think this could be the spike?

Yes, i think that was it spiking. It took a few days for my ammonia to start going down once the nitrite had spiked, so be paitent.

Not long now, it comes down really fast all of a sudden usually, so hang in there

I never got a big spike that some people talk about. I think mine went to just over 2, and then everything started to go down. Take some of the rotting stuff out now, and the ammonia and nitrite should soon start to tumble.
