'Galaxy Rasbora'

Very overharvested in the wild but they are being successfully bred in captivity now. Tend to be available but not cheap.

But damn they are expensive unless you buy in bulk - maybe ask a LFS about ordering some on for you?

Aren't they nearly extinct now in the wild? I have never seen a pic of them as far as I can remember - really lovely fish though, would look lovely in your tank GD! Very Happy

I have just looked on the Thinkfish link and see that they were only discovered in 2006, and yet they are already near extinction. That's not good is it. No

This is probably a stupid question phishy, but I take it they are not a 'natural' fish are they?

I dont like them to be honest - the first time I've seen them though so they might grow on me Very Happy . Mary has a veil-tail BN which is quite nice, but these - I'm just not sure!

They are not 'natural' they are (as far as I know) bred for the long finnage, in much the same way balloon mollies etc are. There are some discussions about them on planet catfish. I don't think they have been specifically altered just bred to encourage a trait.

I'm not keen myself but at least they are not dyed or tattooed...

I never see any unuaual fish in my lfs. If you wanted any of these (or any other none guppy/platty/tetra type) do most lfs take orders and sort it out for you do you know?

My BN is of the longtailed variety but I don't like that one with the flamboyant fins - it looks like it's wearing a long sleeved dress!
