Hi Carol and Welcome............
sorry you are losing fish

have you tested your water for amonia/nitrate/ph/nitrite?
sorry just seen you have.....doh.............

do you climatize them before adding?
bulling?
I always used to add my tropicals at the back of the tank
with lights off. left the lights off for ages.

maybe try another l.f.s. next time just to see
I used to have a problem with neons I got from one of my l.f.s
All used to end up with white fungus on them.
but that was years ago.......

Hiya Carol and welcome to the forum Smile Sorry to hear you are having problems and hopefully we will be able to help. There are a few questions that need answering to give a bit more info though -

What size is your tank?
How long has the tank been up and running?
Did you do the fishless cycle (ading ammonia) or did you just add fish right away?
What exactly are the water stats for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?
What fish do you have in the tank?

Sorry there are so many questins, but it really will give us a better idea of what is going on Smile

OK - if you buy a number of fish - lets say 6 corys - its an unfortunate case of 'odds' - ie one or two will probably die even if everything inthe water is perfect and the transition is flawless - just one of those things.

Can I ask what species of fish are dying (and what you have in the tank) - the reason I ask is some fish are much more 'sensitive' than others - also something else to consider is if the food you feed them is very different to that of the LFS uses then these fish are going to be hungry until they get used to the new food. I always always ask the LFS what they feed the fish (one of my LFS has the usual labels onthe tanks along wioth a note of what the fish are fed)

Another thing to considre is the water type you have and thet the fish prefer (pH and Hardness etc) - but if if makes you feel better - ive lost 5 fish on as many days (due to whitespot) so these things happen.

Hopefully everything will sort itself out soon for you - but if in doubt - you could do a water change everyday - and if its a new tank - you could use carbon inthe filter for a while to remove anything dodgy the test kits dont show.

help 3199 to TFF wave

As above, post results for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate as I suspect that the euphemistically named New Tank Syndrome may be what's killing your fish. Wink

As a side note - having an LFS (local fish shop) that will test your water is good (and actually not standard practise) but having your own kit is oh so much better - is your lfs open at 11pm? probably not.

The best kits are the ones that have bottles of solution and test tubes - the strip type ones are notoriously inaccutrate.

The best bargain at present is the API Master range (either salt water or fresh water) you get an ammonia, nitritem nitrate an pH kit in the one box often for £20 (those individually would normally be at least double that amount) - whilst this seems 'expensive' its great to have around for peace of mind and emergencies.

Its not uncommon for a newly cycles tank to have a 'mini cycle' aka new tank syndrome - but tbh Id expect yopu to be losing many more fish and much faster than you are.

For now - dont replace lost fish for at least two weeks (preferably a month) - get some test kits of your own and watch the water daily just to be sure.

Other than that - us a waiting game - but there is always someone lurking here top help if you want/need it Wink
