| Well, it came, managed to get it all set up yesterday, so now I am the proud owner of this - http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquariums/fluval-aquariums-and-cabinets/fluval-roma-aquariums/fluval-roma-240-aquarium-and-cabinet-black.htmlNow, I was going to get rid of my current tank, but decided at the last minute to keep it, keep the fish that are in it and get new stock for this new one when it is cycled. I am rubbish at thinking of fish types, stocking levels etc, so would appreciate some ideas on what fish I should get and what numbers. I would like a couple of plecs in the mix somewhere, dont want any livebearers, and dont mind having duplicates of some of the fish I already have as I am quite happy with them. Just off now to buy some gravel, bogwood etc, so am going to spend the day filling the tank, washing gravel etc and then start the cycle tonight or tomorrow. ps, the info on the tank says that the recommended stocking level for this tank is 96cm - sounds a lot | |

| Glad to hear that you kept the original tank - it's a slippery slope to MTS, Fishfan. | |

| I tried and hoped that I could resist but have succumbed and am now fatally infected! Tank all set up, filled with water - hadnt thought what a pain that would be to do with a bucket - my arms are knackered, and have even managed to get the filter primed and running ok (I think) Have left it all running overnight just to flush everythingthrough. Now, how do I go about seeding the new filters? I have a filter in my oter tank obviously but do I just squeeze that into the new filters or do I wash them in a bit of tank water and throw that all into the new filter? Not sure what to do now so help would be appreciated = pleeeeeeeese!! ) | |

| If your not going to keep livestock in the old tank - then put all ther media in the new filter (if you can) or as much as possible and pad out any gaps with cut off from new foam (or go out n buy some small foam poads for this purpose or noodles etc) IF you want to vconiue using the 'old' tank for fish - then what you could do ie one of two things - #1 As said - simply squeeze out the old filter media into the bottom of the new filter box (squeeze and use a brush or old credit card or something to scrape some gunk off as well) - if your using the same substrates in both tanks - then its useful to add some ofht eolder rtanks substrate to the new tank - same for bits of bogwood and other decor - ppl seem to neglect the fact that the bacteria populate all the surfaces in a tank. #2 Similar to the squeezings - simply take out half of the media from the old tank and put it in the new filter - and r3place the haves in tyhe old filter - the old filter should recover fully after a week or two (like changing old media in general tbh) and this will put your new tank onto a flying start you should still do the substrate thing if you can anyway Hope this helps | |
