Just doing my water change, sucking on the end of the vac pipe, got distracted, ended up with a mouthful of mucky tank water half I inhaled, half I swallowed, ended up choking to death with my OH laughing as I nearly died!

Theremmust be an easier way to get water out of the tank - how do you all do it?

i use a gravel vac and it requires you to motion the vac up and down (yes like you know what - all blokes should be good at this) and it starts draining the tank after about 1 min of adjitation.

Or use a really long piece and when you suck, it will give you plenty of time to move away before it comes out the other end

LOL good luck - Im cleaning my tank down tomorrow. hopefully no mouthfulls of gunk

well I dont know what you mean about that, but I know when I do this it just seems to terrify the fish. Must be doing it wrong I guess! Thats why I do the same as fishfan and suck hard

move it up and move it down..id do it at a slight angle...it just causes some disruption to the gravel not the fish

Ive never managed to get it going like that - suction seems to be the only thing that works. I'll just have to be a bit more careful

Sucking the end is the only way to get things going imo!

affraid

I have the 6th item down from here

Just put a long piece of hose on one end & stick it in the tank. squeeze the ball to get the syphon going - done!
If you have the bucket on the floor you will suck out water faster & probably end up emptying the tank before you get all the poo out, lol, especially if you fanny about like me.
I put mine on a stool next to the tank & it just makes it a bit slower so i don't empty too much water out tongue

Could one of them be added to a Eheim 4002510 Gravel Cleaner? I believe item four on the page MC listed.

Ooh been there, done that Fishfan. Not very nice. It's all in the timing though. You need to have the "sucky" end of the siphon close to the bucket so that you can just plonk it straight in before you have any unwanted imbibing...
