can anyione recommend a really quiet pumo for a 90 litre tank. I want to set up some sort of bubbley thing, but want it to be quiet because its in the room where I do quite a bit of work. Also, I dont have any live plants but would like to get some easy ones to look after - do they need extra bubbles to live, would I have to leave it on 24hrs?

I havent found a very quiet pump tbh, they all give off some noise. I know some people keep the motors in boxes, wrap them up etc to keep the noise down, that might help. The Hydor Ario's might be worth a look as they dont really have a poump at all, just an impellor, but how quiet/noisy they are I dont know. might be worth looking at though

I own a Hydor Ario 2 with blue LED, Rena Whisper airpump 200 and an Elite air pump.

The Hydor is the quietest but takes up quite a large bit of space in the tank.

Rena is loud maybe it it were in a box it would be a lot quieter. (I am thinking of selling this airpump along with an aircurtain if any use to you - I did originally sell it via ebay but suprise suprise the buyer never paid!!!! Grrrr.)

Elite is small slightly noisy but I wraped in some filter wool and places on a poly square along with some sponge and now its silent. Maybe I should have tried this with the Rena pump.

wooo, 1000 posts!

Re: live plants. Your airpump doesnt need to be on 24hrs, but on an evening instead of the plants drawing in CO2 they draw in 02. However with having the airpump on 24hr it will add more Oxygen to the water for this fish, the more adjitation to the waters surface the better!

With that in mind I have both pumps turn on around midnight and run until 7/8am whilst tank lights are off.

if you get live plats its also best to get plant feed also.

Best thing to start off with is some Vallis, Java Moss, Java Fern, Anubias Nana, Bacopa, Amazon Sword. All mine has grown fine expect a bad batch i got from Ebay

I always buy my plants now from Java as recommeneded by other forum users.

Also use Tropica for info on the plants as I find Java's info a little lacking!

Ive got a Hydor with green light and it looks nice when the tank lights are off. I have it on a timer to be on for 3hrs at night. Do you think this is enough?
