Hi all, how are you all doing? Petrol prices not getting you all down too much I hope! Sad . Anyway, that's not what I am on here for, although I will moan about it if you want me too!

I am just wondering about fry. At the me I am seperating all my fry and putting them in a small tank till they are grown and big enough to go and get a bedsit or something. I was just thinking though, if I left them in the big tank and some survived, would they end up getting pregnant by their father fish, and what effect would that have on fish health etc?

I wouldnt mind leaving some in the tank and increasing my nimbers a bit, but dont want to do the wrong thing. Sorry if this sounds a weird question.

Hiya jammy. Oh please dont start me off about petrol prices - or diesel in my case - I could moan about it for hours!!

Now, about your fish Very Happy . Tye answer is YES! The male fish will mate with any available female whenever he can. It's a natural instinct for the male fish, to ensure survival of the species. A lot of the captive-bred livebearing fish are now suffering from auto-immune and other problems due to years of in breeding and is leading to early deaths a lot of the time.

Personally, I would either keep putting the fry in a seperate tank, or change the fish you have so that you have all males. or all females etc and the problem wont be there then.

It doesn't sound a weird question by the way Very Happy

I believe that cooking oil can be used in diesel cars Diana but it's illegal because you're not paying fuel tax on it. Dont know if that's true or not but I have heard it dunno

jammy you've got 3 lots of fish there that are going to have fry. If you'tre getting fed up with them then I would try and do a swap - some fry for a non livebearing fish.

I've heard that too fishfan, but have never had the nerve to try it. I suppose if you knew a farmer you could always use some of their Red diesel - it's only about 40p a litre!
