Just when you sit back and think that all in the tank is rosey, something comes and slaps you in the kisser. Ive been away at the OH's parents for a few days, came back today and found the tank half empty and water all over the floor.

Mega leak from the bottom of the tank, at the front seam, and the tank was almost empty. I have lost 5 fish, including 2 of my cory's. Ive done an emergency seal job on the seam with some sealant, and refilled the tank, but I dont know if the heater is still working because it hasnt come on since I refilled the tank.

Anyway I can keep the water at a decent temperature for the fish overnight? I thought of covering it with a duvet - is that worth doing?

Oh Fishfan, I am sorry to hear that. I think you could wrap the tank in a duvet, although it depends how cold an area the tank is in - fortunately the nightime temp doesn't drop as low at this time of the year.

You could test the heater - take it out of the tank and put it in a jug of cold water and see what happens.

Hope it all is ok for you.

Oh what a bummer! Any idea why it cracked? Have you any rock in there?
I hope you manage to sort the heater Mad

Well, no more deaths overnight, so all seems ok. The heater did work when I put it in some cool water it came on which surprised me - I thought it would be knackered.

Funny thing is I cant see any crack anywhere - it just seems as if the seal had failed. I put loads of sealer on it and its not leaking at all now!!.

I am just going to keep a close eye on it - I cant afford a new tank, so I am hoping that I have managed to sort it out - for now anyway!
